Our New Clubhouse Location

on May 27, 2018

Those of you close to us may know that we've been searching for a new location since December 2017 - we outgrew our current office long ago and have finally found a place that can meet the needs of our students, parents, and staff. Much like a hermit crab, our new Clubhouse will allow Happy Code to grow and thrive.

Trap't - Escape Room

on Mar 11, 2018

In late February, our team had the opportunity to put their heads together and solve puzzles to make it out alive from our trap't adventure! Before the fun even began, we got to tinker with a bunch of wooden and plastic brain teasers in the lobby, to get the logical-juices flowing.

Broadening Our Horizons

on Jan 31, 2018

Since 1964, the Horizons program has been building brighter futures for kids of all ages. Happy Code Club is proud to have joined the effort to improve the skills of these kids and send them back to their schools excited to learn! We began contributing on January 12th as part of their Winter Program at the New Canaan Country School campus each Saturday for 4 weeks. With two blocks each weekend, I've been teaching 18 students our Unity Unmasked curriculum with the aide of Steven, a TA provided by Horizons and a student who's been in the program itself since 2nd grade.

Touring the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium

on Jan 31, 2018

Invited to Visit 🐟🐠🐡

Our journey began when one of my students at the Horizons program was discussing with his father the Unity class he's taking. That simple conversation sparked what may be an exciting and fruitful program. As I came to learn, roughly 1 year ago the aquarium setup a massive 32-screen digital fish wall, running an app that enabled visitors to paint their very own aquatic life and upon giving it a name, watch it join the hundreds of marinelife up on the big screen! The aquarium's IT Manager Serigo had facilitated this project and after listening to his son's enjoyment of our Unity class, emailed me to introduce himself and the digital wall exhibit. Sergio invited me to come see it for myself, meet him, and tour the facility!

👩🏼‍🔬👨🏼‍💻 Why do our Kids Coding Club T-shirts say "Coding Wizard in Training"? 👩🏼‍💻👨🏼‍🏫

on Nov 22, 2017

You may have noticed our Happy Instructors walking, coding, talking, and teaching with a new style of shirt on. We were so excited to order this new "Coding Wizard" shirt design for BOTH staff and students. Because our instructors are so intelligent, enthusiastic, and downright magical it made perfect sense to brand them as Coding Wizards; moreover the knowledge they impart naturally makes our each of our student HappyCoders a "Coding Wizard in Training" 😄🔮✨
